 | BACK | | Engines in the Collection of Science and Industry illustrate how men have harnessed energy to fulfil their aims and ambitions. The steam engine became one of the greatest inventions of the Industrial Revolution. Less than a century later electricity provided a flexible and portable source of energy. Finally the internal combustion engine revolutionised transport.
The collection allows you to explore the achievements of more than two centuries of innovations - from the magnificent Smethwick engine by James Watt, and Parsons' steam turbine to the Napier Lion aircraft engines which powered aircraft for more than half a century.
These objects can be seen on display at Thinktank, and also at MCC by appointment.
