 It was not just factories that needed to be used efficiently in the war. Food was rationed and in short supply in the shops. The Dig for Victory campaign encouraged people to grow their own food and use every bit of land available.
Seasonal fruit and vegetables were preserved for the winter by canning or bottling. Freezers had not been invented at this time.
American women offered each British Women’s Institute a canning machine like this. They subsidised the cost so they had a low price of £12. MORE |
