Medieval workshop

Birmingham developed as an industrial centre after the middle ages. Metalworking industries were very important.
In 1538 a visitor to the town wrote: ‘There be many smiths in the town that use to make knives and all manner of cutting tools, and many lorimers that make bittes [for horse bridles], and a great many naylors [nailmakers].’
