 Dr Frederick William Lanchester (1868-1946)
Frederick Lanchester was a pioneer of both motorcars and aircraft. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Birmingham in recognition of his achievements.
In his early career Frederick invented several efficient mechanisms for gas-powered engines. In the early 1890s he studied bird flight scientifically and demonstrated his findings with model gliders. His expertise was sought as an advisor to the British government and the aeroplane industry. Frederick’s business ventures were not successful. However, as a consultant he had a tremendous influence on the British motor working for most of the big names. BACK to story |
