Austin Seven Tourer

An early reviewer commented, “One is impressed by the silence of the engine in top gear, whilst the suppleness of the suspension and manner in which the car holds the road on corners are quite remarkable”.
Four-wheel braking makes the Seven an improvement on earlier budget cars. A lever controls the front brakes and a pedal the rear brakes. To stop quickly you have to steer with one hand! Its top speed is 50 miles per hour. You used a crank handle to start it. Austin introduced an electric starter motor in 1923 and shock absorbers the following year.
