 A legend says that this lathe - a manual engine for turning - once belonged to the French King Louis XVI (1738-1793). It’s rumoured to have been in the king’s workshop in the Palace of Versailles.
We are not sure that this engine really comes from the Royal workshop. We don’t know who designed it, but it is certainly not an ordinary industrial tool. Its mahogany table, sophisticated working parts, and elaborate brass decoration suggest that it might indeed have had an aristocratic if not a royal past... MORE |
